The smallest self storage unit is 5ft x 5ft or 25 square feet. This is around the size of half of the typical closet. A unit that is 10ft x 30ft or 300 square feet is around the size of a one car garage. There are many units in between these small and large sizes.

There are some common sizes that self storage companies offer and you can get an idea of what items can fit into them. Be sure to think about everything you want to store when selecting a unit.

• 5x5ft or 25 square feet: This is the smallest unit. You will be able to store a chest of drawers, some smaller boxes, and possibly a small mattress.

• 5x10ft: This unit around the size of a walk in closet. You can store a couch, chest of drawers, a mattress, and maybe even some yard items. You may even be able to get some smaller boxes in the unit.

• 5x15ft or the 8x20ft: This unit is around 80 square feet. It is around the size of a small bedroom. You can store furniture that will fit into a one bedroom apartment. This includes a washer and dryer, refrigerator, and some other small furniture items.

• 10x 15ft: This unit is 150 square feet. You can store items that can fill up a two bedroom apartment or furnishings that fit into a smaller home including most of the appliances. There will still be some room for you to move around.

• 10×20: This unit is large and you can fit the furnishings from a three bedroom home with room to spare.

• 10×25: This unit is 250 square feet and is the size of a one car garage. You can store a car or even a boat. Major appliances from a four bedroom home can also fit into this unit.

• 10×30: This is the largest unit at 300 square feet. You can store a car or truck, a boat, furnishings of a home, and can fit items that would be found in a five bedroom home.
